Testimonials

It will be with me for the rest of my life.

Bruce,

I took your turkey hunting course in spring 2022, and came home yesterday after my first successful turkey hunt.  I wanted to thank you again for organizing the course, sharing your knowledge, and inspiring me to take this journey.

It's been a fairly long one.  During your course I managed to call in a tom on public land off the Orin-Rice road, but spooked him and lost my shot.  That experience was nonetheless electrifying, and it stuck with me.  I hunted outside White Salmon in 2023, and returned to Orin-Rice road in 2024, striking out both times.  This spring I aimed a little further south of you, at Gary Wolf's Alder Creek Ranch between Hunters and Fruitland.

And this time, it all came together.  Observing, calling, choosing terrain (a hill above the ranch sparsely covered with pines), placing decoys, practicing patience.

I didn't know that at the time, of course -- as I settled down on the hillside I thought the morning rush was over, and that my latest calls would likely be as ineffectual as the ones before.  But five minutes later, I saw a tom approaching silently out of the corner of my eye.  I was shocked, breathless, the same way I had been in 2022.  A moment later another tom appeared alongside the first.  By the time they reached my decoy they were almost side by side, a mere 10 yards away, and I knew I would not miss.  The pictures tell the rest.

This is my first hunting story, one I've already told my kids more than once.  It will be with me for the rest of my life.  I don't think I'd have this story -- I doubt I'd have had any of this strange and complicated experience of becoming a hunter -- if it weren't for your willingness to reach out to, and welcome, people like me.

Thank you again and best of luck with your teaching and other work.

Brian
